“A lot of entrepreneurs, they will feel much more confident that I understand the challenges that they’re facing because they know I’ve faced them, too,” Miami attorney Jane Muir said.
When Miami business litigator Jane Muir launched her own firm, it wasn’t the scenario she had d imagined.
As the 2009 mortgage foreclosure crisis did its worst, Muir lost the first job she’d landed after passing the bar just a year earlier. And she needed a quick Plan B.
“Why don’t you start your own firm?” a mentor, prominent South Florida medical malpractice attorney Tomas Gamba, told her.
” ‘Well, gosh, I can’t do that. I’ve just barely graduated from law school. I don’t know how to run a firm,’ ” Muir recalled telling him. “ And he says, ‘Of course you can. You just get an office in a shared space and, next thing you know, you’re a big-time lawyer.’ ”
So Muir took a leap of faith and joined forces with her law school trial partner, who had also lost his job, and Grinberg & Muir was born.
More than 10 years later, Muir is now “ the CEO of two companies,” running her own practice while serving as president of Miami-Dade County Bar Association. She is also a familiar face to most South Florida professionals.
